Mom's Best Advice

Right again Mom!
My tribute to Mom is a day late but hopefully I will still get credit. I did call ahead of time to let her know she wasn't getting anything. I don't think it makes me a bad person since she will agree that:
1. Chocolate is fattening
2. Flowers die
and
3. any gift I buy her will be regifted to someone else and since it's often me, why bother?

So, in lieu of a gift, I will take a moment to thank Mom for the sage advice she has given me:

1. If you have a choice between making your bed and doing something fun, do something fun! Make your bed tomorrow (or don't!)
2. If you see something you love - buy it! Never worry about where you're going to put it.
3. It's okay to go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink.
4. Wear bright colors, big hats and clothing that's inappropriate for your age (yes, inappropriate, that's not a typo.
5.  If you have a stain on your shirt, a falling hem or run in your stocking and you think no one will notice, change, because they will notice
6. Wear lipstick and short skirts
7. A glass can be a vase and a vase can be a glass. Don't let labels guide you. Why use anything for its intended purpose? Look outside the box.
8. If you set a gorgeous table the food will taste better.
9. Eating chocolate at 4pm does not spoil your appetite for dinner.
10. If you try something and you don't like it, you learned that you don't like it, so you might as well try.

And really, what does she need? She's at the point where she is sending me all the crap she's accumulated from past Mother's Days and birthdays. Thoughtfully, I preempted her disappointment by phoning early in the week to let her know to expect nothing. This way she won't have to wonder if I will remember.
Lucky for me, I have an understanding Mother and while every other journalist and blogger has filed their ode to Mom, made their bed and is at the mall picking out a gift, I was out having fun. See Mom, I listen!
